New Musical Comedy Lysistrata Jones Will Give It Up To Broadway This Fall!

It’s official! Lysistrata Jones is heading to Broadway’s Walter Kerr Theatre! After finishing an Off-Broadway run earlier this summer, lead producers Paula Herold and Alan Wasser are moving the musical (a take on Aristophanes’ tale that is centered on a college basketball team) to a much bigger court! Previews will begin on November 12, 2011 and opening night will be on Wednesday, December 14. Lysistrata Jones played at the Judson Memorial Church Gymnasium in Greenwich village from May 15-June 24, and caused a significant amount of hype after receiving several outstanding reviews. The Athens University basketball team hasn’t won a game in 30 years. But when spunky transfer student Lysistrata Jones dares the squad’s fed-up girlfriends to stop “giving it up” to their boyfriends until they win a game, their legendary losing streak could be coming to an end. In this boisterous new pop musical comedy, Lyssie J. and her girl-power posse give Aristophanes’ classic comedy a sexy, modern twist and take student activism to a whole new level.
Book by Tony Award nominee Douglas Carter Beane (Sister Act, Xanadu, The Little Dog Laughed), Music and Lyrics by Lewis Flinn (The Divine Sister), and Directed and Choreographed by Dan Knechtges (Xanadu, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee). Casting will be announced soon.
